An Evening Stroll through Dublin Town

Downtown Dublin is beautiful in the evening. Won’t you come on a stroll with me?

So much activity goes on here.
View down Castle Market Street. The place sparkles in the rain.
Across form Trinity College Dublin, the Bank of Ireland building is an architectural gem of the city. The building was designed to house parliament but was sold to the Bank with a covant that it would never be used for politics again.

I’ve enjoyed visiting the Palace Bar.
Temple Bar is alway hopping at night.
Here’s Temple Bar Sqare, which hosts book stalls during the day.
A view across the Ha’Penny Bridge. There used to be a half-penny tax to cross over it.
Sunset is gorgeous over the River Liffey.

The bridge is a popular tourist site and a major route for pedestrians.
Dublin has so many nice pedestrian streets where the only vehicles allowed are strollers, street vendors, and product deliveries. This one is Henry Street.

Shipping Out from Cobh

My cousin Roland Ouellette and his spouse Rebecca Allen located the ship log for our great grandmother’s 1911 voyage from Cobh, Ireland to Ellis Island.  Roland and Rebecca have been doing a lot of research on ancestry.com and growing our family tree.  Great sleuth work, cuz — I’m thrilled to have this document!

A Flexible Learning Lab at DIT

This is a picture of a flexible lab for learning engineering.  It is a space for group-driven problem-based learning, or a “PBL classroom.” A colleague of mine back in Virginia who is an expert in engineering education said she wasn’t familiar with this type of space, so I though I’d post it for others to see.

It was designed to promote team learning and provide access to materials and tools for building engineering projects.  Above, Gavin’s Instrumentation class had just wrapped up for the morning.

According to artist Matthieu Chardon:

Dublin is one of the most amazing city in Europe, thanks to the people, raw landscape, warm atmosphere, history, culture and parties. Ireland in its all is even better.

He shot this time-lapse footage of Dublin in November 2012 and edited it in December.

It gives an authentic taste of this city.  I love it!

Dave Chance Downtown: Renovation Update

Dave’s been hard at work with renovating his new studio. It’s going be used for business activities today, so he had to get the project to an adequate level of readiness.  Still lots to do, but it’s looking great!
